7 Sign tips that will increase your sales.

Unlike some other sign companies who just want to sell you something, we want your signs to produce maximum profits for your business. Follow these sign design tips when planning your new business sign.

  • Up to 20% or more of your business can come from your signs. Outside of your business, use signs to attract attention to your business, and inside your business signs can softly suggest other services or products and give other recommendations to your customers

  • Use professionally made interior signs to draw attention to your higher profit items or suggest higher priced services, up-sells and cross-sells. Hand made signs make your business look cheap and tacky.

  • Your sign needs an attention getting headline. It’s better to use “Juicy Home Made Burgers” then “Joe’s Burger Stand” for the headline. You can still use your company name on your sign, but make sure you use a big bold statement that appeals to the customers wants, needs and desires. They really don’t care about you or your company, only what you can do for them, so tell them.

  • Fancy fonts are not needed and can make your sign hard to read. Try to stick with easy to read letters. Thin and curvy letters are hard to read, save them for your stationary.

  • Contrast is key. Yellow background and black letters works the best or just a white background with black or red letters. Just the other day I noticed a gray truck with blue lettering on it, I could not read it and I’ll bet no one else could either. Your message needs to be easy to read and easy on the eyes.

  • Use the right size letters. Remember people are normally driving and only have a fraction of a second to read your sign. So use letters that are large enough to read and don’t jam too many words on your sign. Letters that are to small to read, get you small results.

  • Don’t always use your company colors. The first part of selling is to get attention, so if your sign is suppose to announce a sale or promotion it needs to standout and attract attention, company colors may blend right in with your business environment making your promotion almost invisible.

Bonus Tip – Always remember the A.I.D.A. selling principals when designing your signs. (1) Attention – your sign needs to get attention. (2) Interest – your sign need to create or tap into the interest of your target prospect. (3) Desire – your sign need to arouse desire and motivate your customer to take action. (4) Action – you must ask for the sale, tell them what to do, list your phone number, tell them to “call now” or “come on in” etc.

These sign tips may seem like just basic common sense, but as simple as they are, many businesses fail to follow these simple tips. Next time you’re out and about, study all the signs you see and try to find those really good ones.
